Kindergarten
The kindergarten curriculum consists of religion, phonics, reading, printing, math, science, social studies and Spanish. The children also take part in gym, music, computer, and library classes. Work done each day is sent home in a folder to be returned the next day. The folder also contains any important information for you to read. Homework is also sent home. It is a wonderful way to teach responsibility and the beginning of good study habits.
- Daily/ all day use of interactive whiteboard
- Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science (NYS Required Curriculum)
- St. Rose art students - Art Program
Arrival
- Arrival time for school is between 7:55 and 8:05. The children are let into school at 7:55. At 8:05, the bell rings and prayers and announcements begin. Your child is considered late if he or she arrives after 8:05. All children should be left at the door. Parents DO NOT need to walk their child to the classroom. It creates a lot of confusion for everyone and our morning routine is disrupted.
Dismissal
- Dismissal is at 2:50. The children in the car line will be led out to the back of the Church by a teacher. You need to park your car and come to get your child. The children are not allowed to go to you for safety reasons with so many cars in the parking lot. Bus children go to the appropriate room to wait for their bus line to be called. After-school children go to the Pre-K room.
After School Program
- All children in the After-SChool Program may bring a change of clothes. They change at the end of the day.
Field Trips
- Field trips are a wonderful source of learning for your children. We use the parish bus for transportation. The cost of the bus is $1.00 which then gets added to the cost of the field trip. Permission slips are sent home in advance. Anyone who does not return a permission slip will not be allowed to go with us. Any parent wishing to go on a field trip must take the VIRTUS training offered by the diocese. You also need this training to come into the classroom and help.
Health
- If your child is sick please call the office and let us know. If you child gets sick in school you will be notified. Please be sure your home, work and cell numbers are correct in our files. A written excuse is required when your child returns to school. Without an excuse your child will be marked with an illegal absence. Children may return to school when they have been fever free for 24 hours. If medicine is given in the morning your child should not be in school.
Hot Lunch Program
- Hot lunch is available every day. You may purchase lunch by the day, week or month. There is a discount when 5 or more lunches are bought at one time. Hot lunch gets ordered as soon as the children come in to school. If your child does not buy lunch, he/she may still buy milk.
Snack
- Each day we stop for about 20 minutes to have snack. You will receive a monthly claendar stating which day is your child's snack day. Please send in some form of a healthy snack such as pretzels, cheeze-its, graham crackers, etc. The children bring their own juice.
Report Cards
- Report cards will be distriuted 2X a year. Progress reports will be given out in November. If you have any questions or concerns, I am available after 7:30 in the morning. You can also call and leave a message and I will get back to you.
Uniforms
- All children should be in complete uniform every day. Gym uniforms are worn on gym days. Please refer to the school handbook for uniform guidelines.
Birthdays
- Birthdays may be celebrated in school. Cookies, brownies, or cupcakes may be sent in. DO NOT send in whole cakes. It requires too much time and makes too much of a mess. Invitations are NOT handed out unless the whole class is invited. I will send home a class list with addresses if you are only inviting some of the class.
Celebrations
- Throughout the year we will have class parties celebrating the different holidays. I will send home a note with what I am asking you to send for our party. Not everyone brings something to each party. I rotate throughout the year. If there is a problem bringing something please let me know.
