Nursery School
Wel follow New York State's Early Childhood Curriculum for Catholic Schools, covering the following ares:
Small Motor
- We use manipulative activities such as puzzles, lacing beads, lego blocks, and zipper and button boards. Printing, coloring and cutting are also some of the ways we promote storong small motor skills.
Circle Time
- This time is used for discussions. Children are encouraged to ask and answer questions at this time. Weather, Pledge of Allegiance, Calendar and any kind of group activitiy is done at this time. This is also a time for Music and Movement activities.
Free Choice
- Children can choose from a variety of activities, table activities, optional art activities, sand or water play, dress up, family center, building blocks, easel painting, cutting and imaginary play. This promotes making good choices, good sharing skills and good social skills.
Clean Up
- Children are encouraged to coopeate with each other and clean up the classroom.
Snack Time
- Learning to use good manners, healthy social interaction and good nutrition.
Music and Movement
- Singing, dancing, instruments and circle games
Letter Of The Week
- Introduction to letters and letter sounds, printing the letter, recognizing things that begin with the letter and being able to recognize the letter sound.
Holidays
- Celebrating holidays and traditions. Learning about different customs for different holidays and why we celebrate the way that we do.
Colors and Shapes
- Recognizing colors and different things that are cetrain colors, recognizing what the word for each color looks like, also recognizing shapes and learning the names for each shape, seeing things in their world that are these different shapes and colors.
Numbers 1 through 10
- Recognizing each number and learning the name for each number, counting from 1-10, learning one to one correspondence.
Religion
- Understanding God in our little worlds, what he gives to use and what we can give back to him.
Special Classes
- Children must attend music and gym classes each week.
Leaders
- Everyday a different child is the leader that day they help with certain duties, holding the flag and cross, helping with the calendar, passing out napkins for snack, ringing the clean up bell and leading the line. This helps promote being a good role model and making good choices.
All of these pieces add up to a well rounded curriculum that teach the whole child each day, preparing them for their next steps in their education.
