Blessed Sacrament School

PRE-K

Pre-K Program (continued)

The Blessed Sacrament School Pre-K is dedicated to providing children with an exciting and positive first school experience and also, providing a warm and caring atmosphere where the children can grow and develop social and readiness skills. Each child is encouraged to develop at his/her own rate, therefore, building self esteem and a positive attitude toward learning.

Arrival and Dismissal

School begins at 7:55AM. Please bring children into the classroom. If you arrive with your child after 8:10AM, please proceed to the Central Avenue entrance of the building and report to the office. If you need to speak with us, please do so before or after prayer/announcements, which begins at 8:10AM. Dismissal will be at 11:30AM for the morning session and at 2:50PM for the full day session.

Names of authorized persons to whom we may release your child at dismissal will be taken at the Open House. We must verbal or written authorization for any changes. Children will not be dismissed to an unauthorized person.

Pre-K Curriculum

We will be following the Early Childhood Curriculum for Catholic Schools in New York State.

Small Motor - puzzles, lacing beads, Lego blocks, table blocks, lacing, zipper, button boards, etc.

Circle Time - The weekly theme is discussed at this time. Children are encouraged to ask questions and add comments. Story time, weather charts, calendar, finger plays, flannel board, nursery rhymes.

Free Choice - Children choose from a variety of interest centers. Art projects, sand or water play table, playdough, family center, block center, easel painting, small motor activities, drawing and cutting.

Clean-up - Children are encouraged to pick up toys and straighten the room.

Snack Time - Socializing, manners, nutrition.

Music & Movement - Singing, dancing, records, instruments, circle games.

Readiness Skills

"Early World of Learning the Alphabet"

Benziger's "Come Follow Me" religion program and workbook. Children will be made aware of God's love for us and His presence in our world.

Weekly Reader - Stimulates children's interest and helps them learn about the world around them.

Special Classes - The children will attend music, gym and computer classes weekly.

Discipline

We strive for a positive, supporting and accepting atmosphere however, certain behavior is unacceptable (i.e. hitting, biting, spitting, etc.). Children will be asked to sit in the "time out" chair to think about their behavior. This removes the child from the situation and reinforces the idea that certain actions are inappropriate. It is important to invite the child who makes a poor choice to explore the positive options. If the inappropriate behavior continues and the child needs additional action home, the teacher will notify the parent.
